The Wilhelm Furtwängler Society of America is a nonprofit organization which has been established to provide informal educational services about Wilhelm Furtwängler's unique contribution to musical culture. It is our practice to work with existing societies in Britain, France, and Germany in a concerted, worldwide effort to publish important recorded material from live concerts (much of which still remains in private archives). Only products of the highest artistic and technical quality are allowed to carry our Society's name.
The Society is also involved in the publication of written materials, much of which is now being translated into English. Our recordings, books, and other items are available at substantially discounted prices to those who join as supporting members.
The Society's Newsletter regularly features:
- A Forum section: suggestions or letters of general interest are welcomed
- A column about obscure and "unauthentic" recordings, as well as reviews of new recordings
- A section for members interested in seeking or selling Furtwängler recordings
- Articles and selections from upcoming or recently published books
- Original articles of interest to devotees of Furtwängler and his contemporaries and recollections by individuals who actually heard him in performances
- This Website, which is regularly updated and
features a Forum/Chat room
The Newsletter also contains substantial photographic material, most of it from the Furtwängler Archives in Clarens, Switzerland, and much of it previously unpublished.
Annual dues in the amount of $25.00 (U.S. residents) and $30.00 (Canadian and International residents) are payable at the completion of each four Newsletter volume. (A separate resubscription letter will be mailed
out at that time.) Previous volumes of the Newsletter are available for $30.00 (U.S. residents) and $35.00 (Canadian and International residents) per volume of four.
The Wilhelm Furtwängler Society of America is fully supported and endorsed by the conductor's widow, Elisabeth, who continues to be as encouraging as she was at this project's inception in 1987.
We look forward to hearing from you and cordially invite you to join our Society!
Sincerely,
Dade Thieriot
President
